Holistic physical therapy

Using Osteopathic Techniques

Osteopathic Medicine

I was a practicing registered Osteopath for 8 years, treating a variety of mechanical problems ranging from back pain to head-aches and everything in between.  As of May 2019, I am no longer on the General Osteopathic Council's Register of Osteopaths and therefore cannot practice under the official title of 'Osteopath'. However, given my experience and qualifications, I am still insured to practice as a physical therapist, as well as a yoga therapist and my treatment perspective remains the same.

The human body provides all the chemicals necessary for the needs of its tissues and organs, but when function is compromised, impeded blood flow causes nutritional deficiencies within the tissues, creating 'dis-ease'. By freeing restrictions which compromise a healthy blood & nerve supply, the body is able to heal itself.

'Our issues are in our tissues'... The aetiology of disease can be attributed to social, mental/emotional, behavioural and environmental factors and it's important to acknowledge those factors in our lives which could be translating into physical symptoms if we want to heal disease.

Consultation - What to expect

  • Discussion of your medical history and life-style which will provide information to guide us through to the next step.
  • Physical assessment - this will consist of observation, palpation and assessing quality and range of movement throughout your body. The information will be used to diagnose the problem from a holistic perspective.
  • Treatment - I select from my 'toolbox' of techniques which would be most appropriate for you. I'd discuss this with you so we are in mutual agreement and understanding as to how we proceed.
  • Management discussion. Moving forward there may be lifestyle factors or exercises which would be beneficial for you to do at home. Recommendations of helpful sources of information or other therapists who may be of benefit.
  • Follow-up treatments are usually required but is on a case-by-case basis.
